Biergärten in Munich

In 2012 Munich and Upper Bavaria are celebrating an old Bavarian tradition: 200 Years of Beer Garden






Zum Flaucher

“Zum Flaucher” has a long tradition in Munich. The former innkeeper Johann Flaucher soon recognized that this former hunting residence of the famous Wittelsbacher is an ideal destination of excursions.
Since 1871, “Zum Flaucher” attracted more and more people and developed to a very popular spot in Munich. Aside from the urban “hustle and bustle”, in the middle of thick forest, take a break and enjoy a cold beer and some typical Bavarian specialties in a beautiful ambience.




Hirschgarten

Known as “The living room from Munich”, the largest beer garden in our Bavarian metropolis invites you to enjoy a cooled Augustiner beer and the famous pork with potato dumplings in the middle of huge chestnut trees.
With its large lawns and the deer park right aside, Hirschgarten is also the perfect destination for families with children. About a 30 minutes walk from the beergarden you get the chance to visit one of the most famous castles of Munich, the Nymphenburg Castle.


Hofbräukeller (Wiener Platz)

The Steinberg family, for more than 15 years the landlord and landlady of the Hofbräu cellar, and their employees look forward to inspire you to the world-famous Munich tradition and hospitality. Built in 1892, the stately building of the Hofbräukeller is located in the wonderful park of high Bank of the Isar, between Maximilianeum and the German Museum.
As the magnificent building of the neo-Renaissance with its arcades of the former stables, the Hofbräukeller deals sensitively in the ensemble of the Vienna square in the middle of Haidhausen. The beer garden with its ancient chestnut is an Idyll in the heart of the picturesque and bustling environment of the Vienna Square. Enjoy the of the world-famous and palatable Hofbräu beer, a hearty snack and Bavarian delicacies and relax in the cool beer garden under the chestnut trees.




Großhesselohe

In the year 776, Duke Tassilo was certified the "silent Hesselohe" as an estate. In the fifteenth century, he received a beer dispensing permit. Here especially pious pilgrims who sought intercession when hermit living on the slopes of the Isar until towards the end of the 18th century, the silent until then still strengthened himself that this is a famous destination in Munich.
From 1779, a cattle and fair like in Keferloh established itself around the property with the kurfürstlichem privilege. Around 1800 "Forestry Hesselohe", as it was now called, developed to a dance pavilion, which became as well a popular meeting point for young people. In 1852, the railroad came to Grosshesselohe and brought even better business to the Inn. Up to 10,000 visitors were located on a good day. A beer breaks record never accomplished until today has been marked at the Pentecost Sunday 1900 with 123 hectolitres.

Tassilogarten

This beer garden is a frequently described oasis in the town Triangle of Haidhausen Giesing and Au; let you forget the rear city bustle with the view of the flowering oleander and the shadow of the beautiful chestnuts.
Bavarian specialties as Obazda and spareribs are served equally as the refinements of the restaurant kitchen.
Seasonal promotion weeks for asparagus and chanterelles extend the regular offer period.

Skiing highlights Bavaria

Zugspitze


Zugspitze offers a ski area of superlatives at almost 3,000 meters (10,000 feet) above sea level: A total of 22 kilometers (15 miles) provide pure skiing and snowboarding fun – guaranteed natural snow. Terrain Park Zugspitze is the perfect playing field for all freestyle skiers. For children, Zugspitze offers a beautiful sledding hill where young and old people can enjoy the good weather and have a funny day.Let you be overwhelmed by the awesome mountain panorama and experience an unforgettable winter sporting day – an alpine high.


Garmisch


The three ski mountains Hausberg, Kreuzeck and Alpspitze are joined together in the Garmisch-Classic area. 40 kilometers (25 miles) of slopes at an altitude of 700 to 2,050 meters (2,297 to 6,725 feet) are there to tempt you with runs of infinite diversity and unforgettable impressions.
Many winter sports lovers consider the panorama beneath the majestic Alpspitze pyramid one of the most beautiful of the northern Alps. A winter mountain wonderland high above Garmisch-Partenkirchen, skiing over the tree line and pure natural snow.


Spitzingsee


Spitzingsee in Germany is a large resort with 16 lifts that offers skiers an impressive 713 metres (2339 feet) of vertical descent. Spitzingsee has 21 slopes with a total length of 23 kilometers (14 miles). For intermediate skiers and snowboarders as well as for beginners and advanced skiers Spitzingsee offers a terrain for everybody. We have no information about the existence of any cross country ski trails at Spitzingsee. For snowboarders, there is a terrain park.


Mittenwald

Here you are in the middle of downhill fun. Kranzberg chairlift and 6 additional ski tows open up a fantastic skiing area. Numerous downhill courses for beginners, advanced and experts; a highlight at Mittenwald is the floodlight skiing at Luttensee every Tuesday and Thursday from 06:30 pm through 09:30 pm.





Tegernsee

The Tegernsee Valley is your ideal snow holiday destination. With inexpensive flights into Munich and a whole network of easy-to-reach towns nestling between mountains and lake, you will not get an equally laid-back yet diverse holiday experience anywhere else.
If you are thinking about taking up skiing or snowboarding, you will find a whole range of ski schools and attractive beginner’s slopes to get through your first few tumbles. And at the end of any glorious winter day in the valley, a log fire and mulled wine will cheer your spirits.
A further highlight of Tegernsee Valley is going Tobogganing, a fabulous form of winter entertainment that never went out of fashion.

Discover Germany’s longest natural tobogganing run: this 6.5 km ride down the slopes of Mount Wallberg is simply an experience you cannot miss, be it with family or friends or just on your own. Right next to Mount Wallberg, another thrilling run can be found down from lovely Mount Hirschberg. A very enjoyable hike from Tegernsee town up to the popular Neureuth mountain inn will set you off on a 2 km run amongst snowy forests. A total of 8 natural tobogganing runs are scattered around Lake Tegernsee, and sledges are for rent in most of the towns.
The most spectacular adventure in this beautiful ski resort is taking a flight in a hot air balloon or tries paragliding to get a bird’s eye view of the valley. Horse lovers will enjoy a spin through the wintry valley in a horse-drawn sleigh of carriage.
